MMS PTSA Open House (Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 6 pm)
Morton Staff and PTSA would like to invite you to our Open House on
Tuesday, August 25, 2015, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm.  We would like for you to
meet your child’s teachers and get an overview of each of his/her
classes. The evening is designed specifically for parents, so students should
not attend.  It will begin with a short welcome meeting in the gym, then
you will follow your child’s schedule for approximately 10 minute class
sessions.  We hope you can join us for this exciting evening!

School Fundraiser Information
Attention parents and students:  Please remember that our annual school fundraiser/magazine sale is underway.  Turn in orders to AL teachers on Wednesday, August 26, and Wednesday, September 9.  Each sale earns you a Garfield cat and each cat earns you more chances at winning prizes and snacks.  The more money you help raise for Morton, the more prizes you can win.  5 sales gets a free admission to the school dance October 9 and 8 sales wins 20 seconds in the Money Machine.  Donations of $10, with check made to Morton Middle School counts as one sale.  You can also order online at www.gaschoolstore.com/online. Also, we are selling Pro and College team tumblers, as well as a Morton Mustang tumbler.  Be sure to check out a new college tuition rewards program. Our goal is for each student to participate and make at least one sale. High School Applications for  Specialized Academic Programs
Applications for high school G/T programs – Liberal Arts Academy at Henry Clay, Math Science & Technology at Dunbar, and SCAPA Bluegrass, and Specialized Academic programs – International Baccalaureate at Tates Creek, Pre-Engineering program at Lafayette, STEAM Academy, and Academy of Information Technology at Bryan Station – will be available online at www.fcps.net until 11:59pm on October 7.  If you wish your child to apply to one or more of these programs, you must fill out the online application before the October 7 deadline – even if you live in that high school’s district.  Applications will not be accepted after that date.  If you have questions, please contact the high schools directly.  Morton does not have access to the forms or the information.

Attendance
Be sure to call the attendance office @ 381-3535 every day if your child is absent. Also please send a note within 3 days of their return to school.

Notice About Your Change In Address
Please contact Ms. Hufnagel or call her at 859-381-3540 if you have changed your address or phone number.  If you have a change of address you must bring in a new proof of residence.

Summer Reading Lists
Morton ELA teachers request that all Morton students read two books over the summer from the required reading list.  Please click on the link for your grade level in order to choose your two summer reading books.  Upon returning to school, you will be required to pass an Accelerated Reading test for both books.  Happy Reading!

Girls Basketball
Tryouts will be held on September 28 – 30 at Morton from 4 – 6 PM.  The tryout times are subject to change due to the middle school volleyball tournament.  Students must have acceptable grades (7th – 8th grade students must have had a 2.5 GPA from the 4th nine weeks last semester), good conduct, and a KHSAA sports physical.  Turn your KHSAA physical in to Coach Adams by Friday, September 25.  Informational packets will be available in the gym starting in September, but you may also access it here along with the 2015 game schedule.

Student Clubs and Activities
Students are encouraged to become involved in Morton's extra-curricular activities. (Click on link to see listing.) Contact the sponsor of each activity by clicking on the Staff link at the top of Morton's homepage to get the teacher's email address or by calling the sponsor.

Sports Physicals
All students wishing to try out for a sport, cheerleading or dance team must have a completed sports physical physician form and consent form on file before they will be allowed to try out.  These forms were revised as of April, 2015.  This is the direct link to the newest forms.  Forms are also linked below.
